Our First Pilot
Building toward a focused first launch.
WDI is preparing a practical first pilot across police K9 placement, youth workforce development, and continued K9 team training.
No-Cost K9 Placement
WDI’s first pilot aims to prepare and place two trained police K9s with qualifying law enforcement agencies at no cost to those agencies. The program is designed to help departments access K9 resources while supporting teams from preparation through placement. Funding will help WDI develop the dogs, equip the teams, and make these placements possible.
Youth Criminal Diversion and Workforce Development
WDI plans to begin with five young people ages 16–24 in a 12-week cohort. Participants will receive hands-on experience in working-dog care and training, meet professionals across the dog industry, and explore potential career paths. The program will also create opportunities for positive interaction with police officers, helping young people build relationships with mentors and see new possibilities for their futures. A meal will be provided after each weekly session.
K9 Team Development
WDI plans to offer monthly training for local law enforcement K9 teams. Sessions may address handler and dog teamwork, bite development, apprehension skills, and other training needs identified with participating agencies. This program is designed to help teams strengthen their skills through continued practice and access to experienced training support.
